Now she found herself in a small glade in the woods. A horse was lying on its side, its flanks heaving up and down as it stared at the sky in wide-eyed agony.

A little way away the queen was sitting on the grass, clutching her ankle and staring fearfully into the trees. Soon the look on her face changed from fear to panic. She began to scrabble backwards.

Someone was approaching.

Just as the queen stumbled back into a tree, her pursuer broke into the clearing. The look on her face changed from panic to sudden relief.

“Gwalchmei!”

“Findabair!” The warrior jumped from his horse and ran to the queen, his hair matted, his face covered in blood. He picked her up and sat her on his horse then jumped up behind and spurred the steed into the trees.

As they rode off, Rose saw the queen rest her head against the man's chest and sob like a child.

Then she was being whirled upwards and away.
